Why do we need a Gas Safe registered Engineer

Simon Thomas Thursday, Mar 5, 2015

It’s all about safety. If someone other than a Gas Safe registered engineer does the gas work in your home, you could be risking the safety of your family and your property.

Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and unsafe gas appliances produce a highly poisonous gas called carbon monoxide (CO). It can cause death as well as serious long term health problems such as brain damage.

Remember the six main symptoms to look for:

  1. Headaches
  2. Dizziness
  3. Nausea
  4. Breathlessness
  5. Collapse
  6. Loss of consciousness

You are not legally allowed to repair, maintain or install gas related work without being Gas Safe registered. Never DIY with gas. You will be putting yourself and your family in serious danger.

A quarter of a million illegal gas jobs are carried out each year. If your gas fitter is not Gas Safe registered then they are illegal. If your gas engineer is qualified and registered to do gas work in your home they will be able to show you their Gas Safe ID card.

Remember to have all your gas appliances, including boilers and gas cookers checked annually.

We are Gas Safe Registered.
